With the referral letter, we can make appointment with either NUH or KKH specialist clinic. Personally I preferred NUH because of its location but I was told by my sister that KKH is better (PRO in children healthcare) so I choose KKH.
We arrived the hospital 10 mins prior appointment. The waiting hall is empty when we reached the clinic (maybe because our appointment is the first after lunchtime). Our number was called very soon at 2pm sharp (WOW) and we entered the Doctor’s room. There is 6 persons in the room (shocked) and 5 of them are under-study student I guess. I told the doctor our concerns with Bee's clasped thumb...etc.
Dr Daryl Chew is very friendly and attentive, while checking on Bee's hand, he keeps talking and interact with Bee to distract him from getting cranky or crying (very PRO). He ask about Bee's growing developments that are mostly on track. He did not relate Bee's clasp thumb to any syndrome yet, he name it a "LAZY THUMB" and he teaches us on how to massage and stretches Bee's thumb to loosen the ligament. He will see Bee again in a month's time to see if there's any improvement before he decides to give him any therapy or treatment.
The doctor mentioned that it is very good to find out this problem early, he mentioned that younger infant are mostly able to fixed this thru therapy (eg. wearing a splint) to adjust it. Most kiddo came him at age 9 months and above will usually need to go thru hand surgery.
The oeverall experience at KKH specialist clinic was GOOD.
From today onward, we will keep massage Bee's hand and stretch his thumb, hopefully he can lift up his left thumb soon.
