First Antenatal Care appointment @ NUH

After the spotting nightmare, it's due for my first antenatal care appointment (Week 8) at NUH G clinic (for subsidized patients). Due to the episodes of spotting at A&E, I am referred to see the group of senior doctors. The waiting time is short, I get to see the doctor within 15 mins after my BP (Blood Pressure) measurement.

I had my first obstetrics scan and Bee (fetal pole) was found and measured at 15.2mm. He is smaller then his gestational age, probably due to my longer cycle and late ovulation. Heartbeat was detected, everything seems okay. The doctor prescribe me with more Dydrogesterone that have to be taken all the way until the end of first trimester (week 12).

Visit A&E again!

There is no improvements after taking the Dydrogesterone pills for days. I am still having dark brown spotting that resembles old blood on the last days of menses and it is getting heavier.
I went back to A&E on the 3rd day, did an ultrasound again. Doctor has detected fetal pole of 4mm (grow double the size in 3 days) with a faint heartbeat. Bee is still safely growing inside me :)

To maintain the pregnancy, I was given a jab of Proluton 250mg (synthetic progesterone, was said to be a very painful jab), I guess I was too worried to bother about the pain therefore I feel nothing at all. Doctor advise me to continue the Dydrogesterone pills daily and have plenty of rest. After the powerful jab, no more spotting from the next day onwards.

Spotting & Bleeding

Shortly after a few happy days, something bad happens. I start to get pink spotting on & off. I checked online and found that this is a very common symptom for early pregnancy so long it does not accompany with cramps and heavy bleeding.

It doesn't bother me much until one evening, I spotted RED on a Wednesday evening.
It wasn't heavy, just an episode without cramps and stopped. Eventually, I start to spot brown for many days.

This morning, I feel very uneasy on the way to work, therefore I decide to see the doctor at the gynae clinic of NUH, but they refuse to let me see the doctor because I don't have an appointment and refer me to A&E instead.

The gynae at A&E did an pelvic ultrasound and show me the baby sac. Bee (fetal pole at this time) is only at size of 2mm with a very faint heartbeat. Bee is too tiny to measure his heart rate, but this scan does conclude that the baby sac is still in my uterus (at the right place) and the doctor has eliminated the possibility of ectopic pregnancy (feeling a little relieved). Doctor advise me to have more bed rest and given me a week of MC & some Dydrogesterone pills (10mg x 2 daily). I was told to come back again if the spotting persists. NUH A&E consultation fee $100 (for SG citizen)

Confirmed pregnancy with doctor's test

On a Saturday morning, we went to the Polyclinic for a doctor's pregnancy test. The doctors test is more convincing that we are going to become parents,
YEAH! FINALLY OUR TURN!

I'm not a paranoid person but I always want to be prepared for the worse.
I always have the mentality of "WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS", therefore I decide to go thru the subsidised route with a government hospital for in the beginning until the baby is stabilised (probably after Week 12).

Between the 2 choice of government hospital (KKH & NUH), I decide to go NUH due to it's location than the latter. We received a referral letter (as subsidised patient) and an appointment date from the polyclinic and given a dose of 5mg folic acid pills to be taken daily for 30 days.

Why Bee

I am diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago due to spotting in between of cycles, I know pregnancy route may not be as smooth as I wanted it to be. After trying of 6 months, I went to a gynae (Thomson clinic @ Jurong) for a check, spend $300, nothing was done, just pelvic scan and the doctor recommended a series of lab tests to do that cost lotsa $$$. I am very disappointed with the clinic, no advise were given and the doctor said he can't help me without any tests done <angry>.

One day, I happened to visit a website online recommending on bee products that help some women with PCOS in conceiving. I did a little more research on these bee products about their wonders and side effects. I start taking the royal jelly and bee propolis capsule alternately everyday. Royal jelly is to nourish the egg in ovaries and Bee propolis improves fertility for women with Endometriosis (not sure if i have). To my surprise, I get my first positive test within 3 months. Am not sure if it has to do with the bee supplements that I have took but I still decide to give my unborn baby the nickname "Bee".

Positive results

The happiest day in my life. I was so excited when I saw a faint line (positive) on the Watson's pregnancy test strip. After months of trying and wasting countless of test strips, this is the very first time that I saw something different on the positive window. I wasn't convince with the faint positive line therefore I went to purchase the Clear Blue test kit. The 2nd test kit gave a clear result "+", I show it to hubby immediately, after seeing the results, our eyes were filled with tears. We are overwhelmed by this surprise and we hugged in silence. Thank god!
